Simard is an award-winning author, motivational speaker, survivor of Stage IIIC breast cancer, and catalyst to bring more mental health education and resources to those impacted by cancer. Within three months of completing treatment in 2015, she founded the Center for Oncology Psychology Excellence (COPE) at the University of Denver.

Diane explains how she became an advocate for more mental health education and resources for those impacted by the psychological trauma of cancer in her multi award-winning book, The Unlikely Gift of Breast Cancer, named one of the best breast cancer books of all time by Book Authority.
