Beverly A. Zavaleta, MD is a board-certified family physician and obtained her MD from Harvard Medical School. She currently practices as a hospitalist physician in Brownsville, Texas. In 2015, she became a patient herself when she was diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer. She underwent a grueling chemotherapy regimen that incapacitated her so much that she wasn’t able to cook or drive. Her cancer experience, as well as being a physician and a long-time advocate for patient education, led her to turn her attention to writing chemotherapy-focused patient education materials. In 2019 she published her book Braving Chemo, a patient and caregiver guidebook about what to expect, how to prepare and how to get through chemotherapy. Braving Chemo is available throughout the world and is donated to patients by many cancer non-profit organizations.
